Obituary for Delmer Lee Duty

Delmer Lee Duty, 79 years of age of Grundy, VA, passed away Monday, August 26, 2019 at Heritage Hall in Grundy, VA. Born June 1, 1940 in Grundy, VA, he was the son of the late Hezachar Duty and Virgie Bowman Duty.

Delmer was a retired coal miner, and current employee of Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Homes. He was a friend to many and always willing to help someone, and of the Old Regular Baptist faith. He was a loving dad, brother and friend.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Diane Grisby, son Scott Hackney, sisters Helen Taylor, Gencie Killen, Mae Pittman, Dallas Pittman, and brother John Duty.

Survivors include his friend and mother of his son Charlotte Duty of Hurley, VA; sons Delmer Charles “DC” Duty of Hurley, VA; Danny Duty of Glenburnie, MD; brothers McArthur “Mack” Duty of Fox Lake, IL, Jackie Duty and wife Annette of Grundy, VA; sister Anna Ruth Foster and husband Ervin of Fox Lake, IL; step-daughter Lora Hall and her daughter Tori of Grundy, VA; daughter-in-law Kimberly Hackney of Hurley, VA; several nieces, nephews and friends.

Grave side services for Delmer Lee Duty will be held Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mudlick Cemetery on Convict Hollow Road in Maxie, VA with Elders Roger Coleman, Toy Looney, Lance Looney and Jimmy Stacy officiating. Burial will follow.

Active pallbearers will be the Employees of Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Homes.
