Obituary for Burton Mounts

Minister Burton Mounts, 81 years of age, of Tazewell and formerly of Grundy, VA, passed away Thursday, September 26, 2019 at his home. Born October 1, 1937 in Mohawk, WV, he was the son of the late A.C. Mounts and Becky Bailey Mounts.

Burton was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith and enjoyed traveling to different churches hearing God’s word. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, camping, watching wrestling and spending time with his grandchildren. Loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one daughter, Roberta Gail Mounts, one granddaughter, Amanda Renee McClanahan, one son-in-law, Orvin McClanahan, four brothers, and two sisters.

Those left to cherish his memories include his loving wife of 61 years, Tina Lorene Blakley Mounts of Tazewell, VA, one son, Burton Mounts, JR (companion Faye Woosley) of Oakwood, VA; two daughters, Sherry Owens of Collinsville, VA, and Shelia McClanahan of Tazewell, VA.

He is also survived by two grandsons, Greg Owens of Collinsville, VA and Orvin (O.J.) McClanahan (girlfriend Angela Meadows) of Tazewell, VA; one granddaughter, Samantha Owens of Ransom, KY; and several nieces and nephews.

Per Burton’s wishes, his body will be cremated and the family will have a celebration of life service on a later date.
