Obituary for James Edward Harman

James Edward Harman, born August 23, 1952, age 64 of Richlands, Virginia went home to be with the lord on Friday, June 30, 2017. He was born in Tazewell County, Virginia and was the son of Kendris Harman and the late Dorothy Harman.

James loved his family, friends, and most of all God. He let his light and the love of Christ shine by witnessing to everyone that crossed his path. He believed in faith to move mountains and throughout his life his trust in God never wavered. Growing up, James developed his love for sports and people through playing football and baseball but nothing compared to his passion for racing. He spent many years behind the wheel of his race car at local tracks and won multiple championships in his signature black and yellow number 44 car. As a young man he followed in his father’s footsteps and entered into the coal industry where he would later become an owner and operator of multiple coal mines throughout the surrounding states. For the past decade, James has owned and operated trucking companies allowing him to continue to touch the lives of many. James enjoyed spending time with family on the banks of New River, fishing and sitting by the campfire retelling stories.

James walked throughout this world with his kindergarten sweetheart, best friend, and the love of his life, Linda Harman, by his side. Together they showed their family the true meaning of unconditional love and endless devotion to one another. This love paved the way for an incredible journey of 47 years of marriage and lasting memories.

In addition to his wife, James is survived by his father Kendris Harman of Tazewell, VA. Two sisters, Judy Honaker-Martin and Coy Martin of Abingdon, VA, and Teresa and Mike Brown of Bristol, TN. James was a loving and devoted father to five children and six grandchildren. Daughters include Misti and Richie Drum of Richlands, VA; Lindsey and Mark Bandy of Richlands, VA; and Jaima and Ashley Harman of Richlands, VA. Sons include Brogie and Kim Harman of Lebanon, VA; and Ren and De Harman of Christiansburg, VA. Grandchildren include Parker, Ily, Jackson, Brogan, Bradie, and Bryce. Nephews Michael Brown II and Christopher McGlothlin, Niece Tamra Wilson and Great-niece Raylee Wilson.
